FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We know that entering into a new sport can be intimidating and that you will have some questions. Let us answer some now to get you started.

IS FENCING SAFE?

Yes! Fencing is actually an extremely safe sport. The uniforms are built in a way to prevent force of the blows while the structure and flexibility of our weapons absorb the force of blows.

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO I NEED?

CrossXswords provides fencing equipment for Epee Starters sessions, as well as the SwordPlay program. As fencers transition into regular training, we ask that participants acquire their own gear.

I HAVE FENCED BEFORE BUT I AM A LITTLE RUSTY, WHAT CLASS SHOULD I DO?

Our SwordMasters sessions include warm up, footwork, drills and bouting as well as some one-on-one time with a coach. The groups are usually split into less- and more- experienced, to cater for different needs and abilities so you can start off slow and build up! If you don’t have your own equipment, please contact us to discuss your options.
